North Umpqua Volunteer Opportunities
North Umpqua Volunteer Opportunities
June 16 - July 8
Hi Steamboaters,
We are reaching out to share an exciting volunteer opportunity this summer with the Umpqua National Forest—especially for those who are interested in contributing to active conservation work for fish in the North Umpqua Basin.
The Umpqua National Forest is looking for volunteers to help with culvert assessments from June 16 to July 8 (Monday–Thursday, excluding federal holidays). This work will support environmental analysis and restoration planning in the Upper Steamboat Creek, Middle Steamboat Creek, and Steelhead Creek subwatersheds.
What you’ll do:
Hike and wade through streams to help with assessments
Assist in measuring stream features like bankfulls, gradients, and lengths
Collect field data using a tablet (we’ll provide training—no prior experience needed!)
What we’re looking for:
Persons physically able to hike and bushwhack to stream crossings
Comfortable walking in streams and navigating uneven terrain
Equipped with waders and wading boots (we may be able to supply them depending on size)
Available for one full field day (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or later) in the date range mentioned above
The Umpqua National Forest will provide a field vest, hard hat, bug spray, and sunblock, and you'll ride with Forest Service employees from the North Umpqua Ranger District offices.
If you or someone you know is available any day between June 16 and July 8, please reply to this email or send us a message at steamboatersboard@gmail.com as soon as possible. We’ll help you get scheduled to make an impact in the North Umpqua Watershed.
Thank you for helping us continue this important work!
Best regards,
Kirk Blaine
