Salmon Watch & Volunteer Training

Salmon Watch is an annual, place-based educational experience focused on watershed health and function, intended to:

• Cultivate environmental stewardship with students

• Teach students about the beauty of the salmon life cycle

• Help students experience the ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest

Student field trips align with Chinook salmon migration:

• Spring Chinook: Carmen Smith Spawning Channel

• Fall Chinook: Whittaker Creek Campground

Salmon Watch is volunteer led, with immersive, hands-on learning on

• Macroinvertebrates

• Riparian Ecology

• Salmon Biology

• Water Quality

Salmon Watch field trips span Tuesday - Friday, during the last two weeks of September and all of November. (Trips will end on November the 24th.) The field trips are an all-day event, starting around 8AM and ending around 1PM. Depending on school schedules, that time frame shifts day to day.

New volunteers are encouraged and are asked to complete a training before volunteering at Salmon Watch. If you are registered for a training option, you may sign up on the volunteer calendar early.

Volunteers are welcome to drive themselves to the sites, but options for carpooling may be arranged. More information can be found on the Salmon Watch website.
